Here are some of the top 10 excuses for not exercising and some ways to help you beat them.
1. I don’t have enough time
This is probably the most common excuse of them all. Trust us, we get it! We know life can be tough and sometimes it doesn’t feel like there is enough hours in the day. However, it is so important to make time. Even if it’s just a 30 minute workout, science has shown that doing shorter high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is just as effective. Sounds to good to be true?? then why not try it out and see for yourself.
2. Too tired
After a long day at work we are sure you would just love to go home and sit on the couch but the great thing about exercising is that it actually gives you MORE energy! More often than not you will leave the gym feeling completely refreshed and full of energy. If feeling tired is a recurring feeling, maybe try look at your sleeping habits. It’s important to get between 7 and 8 hours sleep each night. If you are too tired to go to the gym after work, try to get into the gym early this will set you up for the day with lot’s of energy.
3. It’s too hard
You can do it! Believe in yourself. Making that first step can be hard but it doesn’t matter how you start as long as you start. Take one step at a time and before you know it you will be stronger, healthier and happier. You need to show your mind who’s boss, set realistic goals and focus on them instead of how difficult you think it will be.
4. I forgot my…
Be sure to pack your gym bag the night before this way you won’t forget anything. It’s always good to double-check you are not missing anything. Getting into the habit of being organised the night before will make sure you never miss a gym session/class or dip in the pool.
5. It’s too expensive
Yes, some gyms are expensive but the Kingfisher Club offer some great packages to suit everyone. Once signed up you will have full access to the gym, pool and all classes are free to members, allowing you to mix up your workouts.

Don’t do the same thing every day, change it up with a class, a dip in the pool and some gym time.
7. It’s raining

8. I don’t know where to start

9. I don’t have anyone to go with
It’s great having a friend to join you for a gym workout as it keeps you motivated and on track. It’s a lot easier to skip a gym session or a class when it’s just you but when you have someone else there it keeps you focussed. Don’t panic if you don’t have a gym buddy to bring along, don’t let this stop you. The gym is the perfect place to meet like-minded people. Come along to one of our group exercise classes and meet new friends.
10. I don’t feel motivated
At the beginning it’s hard to get yourself motivated to start, but once you start it’s hard to stop. The new lease of life and burst of energy is enough to keep anyone motivated. Set a schedule for yourself to follow and mix it up, this will help you stay on track. Break down your ultimate goal into small goals, these small goals will help you feel like you have achieved something and will keep you focused for the bigger goal. Be sure to write them down and put them somewhere you will see them every day.
Don’t let these excuses get in the way of your goal. It is so important to keep fit and healthy. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you do skip a gym session as sometimes we do have a valid reason for skipping a workout. The worst thing you can do is to quit altogether, so be sure to not let your excuses derail your efforts. Seeing results and feeling healthy is about staying on track and eating healthy. Ask yourself if what you are doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow. Take the first step and make fitness part of your life.
