National Fitness Day
Ireland’s second National Fitness Day will take place this Friday 29th September. People are being encouraged to get out and exercise and to show support, all three Kingfisher Club’s will be holding FREE CLASSES to members and non member, these classes will be suitable for people aged 16 and over, no matter what your fitness levels.
National Fitness Day aims to promote the benefits of physical activity. Ireland Active the representative body for Ireland’s leisure, health and fitness sector are driving the initiative supported by Sports Ireland and Healthy Ireland.
All our classes will be run by qualified and registered fitness instructors as well as some virtual classes.
Physical activity is essential for overall health and well being. It is recommended that adults do at least 30 minutes a day of moderate activity 5 days a week (or 150 minutes a week) to maintain their health. Children are recommended that they get 60 minutes of vigorous activity a week, currently only 1 out of 5 in the Republic of Ireland are getting enough exercise.
National Fitness Day ambassador Alan Quinlan said “Physical activity is so important in keeping a healthy body and mind. When you look after your physical health you feel better in yourself and this contributes enormously to your mental fitness.”
Launching the campaign, former Cork All-Ireland camogie champion, Anna Geary, explained how important keeping active has been to her.
“I have benefited so much from being active throughout my life, be it the friends I have made from sport or how staying fit and being active continues to help me with daily life.
“I have seen first hand the positive impact of regular physical activity on the health and wellbeing of people no matter what their age. I would encourage everyone to get involved in National Fitness Day’s ‘come and try’ activities” she said.
